It’s been a crazy 18 months. Things like COVID-19, BLM movements, and political unrest (just to name a few) have spurred a lot of questions….which leads to introspection and many people wondering about the bigger picture. What’s our purpose? Is there a greater meaning? We’re on the journey here at Social Tribe too – questioning and challenging ourselves to answer important questions like, “how can we make a positive difference in the world around us?”
As we look to answer these questions, we have found the ideas and possibilities are vast – especially given we’re a fully remote company. To be honest, brainstorming all the potential good we can do in the world is both exciting and a bit humbling at the same time. There’s a lot of work to do out there! It’s inspiring to deep dive with the team into all the ways we can help the world. How often do we put concentrated focus on the good? These are the things that help build a deeper bond and more meaningful connection. And who doesn’t want that?!
We realize that with great power comes great responsibility. And we want to use that power to make a positive difference in the world, or at least in our communities. So, it’s with great excitement that I announce we have landed on our next meaningful step towards achieving that with Social Tribe’s Social Impact Days – a new initiative that dedicates two paid work days per year for employees to volunteer to a cause of their choice.
On June 18 and January 21, Social Tribe will be closed in honor of Social Impact Days, during which employees will be encouraged to donate their time to support a cause of their choice. We chose Friday, June 18 to recognize and reflect on Juneteenth, the day in 1865 slaves in Texas learned of their freedom – a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. With a growing number of companies are embracing Juneteenth as a holiday, we wanted to take the time to contribute to positive change in the world.
This is our opportunity to give back to the many organizations and people who dedicate their time to making our communities and world a better place, which is time well spent. Keep an eye on our social channels to see some places we’ll be working with and check back here to find a wrap up of how we spent our day.
